Drifting is a driving technique where the driver intentionally loses traction in order to gain momentary control of a sliding car. It works by keeping constant throttle input while reducing brake and steering inputs. This allows the car to continue drifting through corners with little or no sideways movement from the wheels, until it is straightened out on exit.
